Keeper of the Grail - Book 1 of The Youngest Templar Trilogy written by Michael Spradlin - Ages 10+

Keeper of the Grail
Book 1 The Youngest Templar
Summary - 1191 A.D. The orphan Tristan has joined the Knights Templar as a squire, journeying with Richard the Lionheart on his crusade to free the Holy Land from the Saracens. As defeat looms near, Tristan is entrusted with the most sacred of Christian relics, the Holy Grail. He must return it safely to Britain, but he must also keep it secret, because the Grail’s power will drive men to madness, and even his fellow Knights Templar will kill for it.

Tristan teams up with the fiery Robard Hode— returning to his home in Sherwood after serving with the King’s Archers—and Maryam, an equally fierce girl and a member of the dreaded Hashshashin. Together they must escape the Holy Land, dodging bandits, the forces of the Saladin, and unscrupulous knights who will stop at nothing to possess the Grail.

Reviews
"This book is better written than most Templar fiction and more historically accurate than most Templar nonfiction." - Blog Templar History

"Keeper of the Grail is a great start to what promises to be an exciting series. The basis in history and legend is an added bonus. Michael P. Spradlin knows how to capture the reader and educate while entertaining." - Bookloons

"The Youngest Templar blends the best of historical fiction and adventure with a riveting coming-of-age story... Although a reader as young as ten could enjoy The Youngest Templar, adults will find much to appreciate in this lyrically written book as well." - Armchair Interviews

"Dad read it along with me and was saying how much he liked it and how well written it is. And that is saying a lot, dad is usually very busy and doesn’t have a lot of time to read anymore." - Dragon Page

"The chapters are fairly short and most, if not all, end on a cliffhanger which keeps the reader wanting more. I would suggest this one as a good classroom read aloud" - Green Bean Teen Queen

"I really enjoyed reading this book. Spradlin deftly captures the essence of the adventure and danger of twelfth century for young readers." - Elliot Review

"The story is quick-paced with a lot of action that will keep readers heavily involved. And don't get me started on Sir Hugh . . . " - Reading Review
